 We Need Volunteers/Interns For:
  • Our Up-cycling project - preferably with basic interest in design and craft work - to work with our mothers and retired teachers who need an income
  • Project Smile - reading with our anganwadi children or working on small art/craft/singing/dancing projects
  • Blackboard project - chalkboard painting walls in anganwadis 
  • Anganwadi Infrastructure Maintenance Project - funding or organizing these projects which run from plastering walls to building toilets for little children
  • Anganwadi Book&Toy Box Project
  • Donation collection, sorting and distribution projects 


For Anganwadis with a total of 300 children aged 2-6 yrs
  • Activity Books

  • Toys (for 2-6 year olds only)
  • Tricycles – 15 (new/used in working condition)
  • Baby Chairs – 50 (new/used in working condition)
  • Mixies – 25 (new/used in good working condition)

  • Donors to sponsor Uniforms – 3 anganwadis

  • Light bulbs (preferably CFLs/LEDs) - #10

  • False Ceiling Conversions (covering asbestos sheets) – #5 Anganwadis
  • Vegetable Gardens
  • Painting Blackboards/ Black chalk paint on walls


For Father Tezza’s Special School, Wynad
  • Clothes for girls (aged 5-45 yrs)
  • Sanitary napkins
  • Adult diapers
  • Blankets & bed linen – for the upcoming monsoon season
  • Cycles – 5-10 adult cycles (new/used in working condition)
  • Computers - #20 (new/used in working condition)
  • Donors to sponsor fish, eggs & milk – every month on a long-term baisis (this is an annual monthly donation that would feed all the children here)

Chennai’s floods have taught us a lot.   While it’s reminded us, in developing countries especially, that there’s a reason cities are planned a certain way and that nature or climate change is not something you can ever take lightly, its also taught us a whole load of other lessons. A Crayon in Time

Every crayon saved is a crayon shared. The team at Stepping Stones, Global Public School, Kochi  has sure given us a lot to smile about this time of the year. Every leftover crayon, every eraser, every notebook and every pencil was saved and shared. This helped The Ashoka Tree make some pretty neat stationery kits for over a 100 children in Wynad, North Kerala. You've Spread More Smiles.

Omana Teacher's Anganwadi

Going through the websites of Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA) and Lions Club one can easily get a beautiful image of the ‘ideal city’ work in progress. But the question is, who is the target audience? The city one hopes Cochin will be in a decade or two clearly depends on the children we educate today. Omana Teacher’s Anganwadi in Kadavanthra is fairly big, in comparison to most of the others, and spacious with around 23 children in attendance. Neatly dressed, in uniforms provided by the Lions Club, this anganwadi was built by the Lions club for free on GCDA land. “I can't recall any instance where we were asked to pay any rent as such” says Omana teacher, 54 years old.
