Run The World!

A certain Ms. Knowles got there ahead of us, but she sure knew what she was talking about!  Running the world is not left up to a Teresa May or Angela Merkel today.  Running the world begins at home.  She is the first person to wake up, hours ahead of the rest of the family to get the day started, packing lunch boxes and organizing the home before she heads out to work.  Her job runs 24 hours, on call for the family, on conference calls with her boss, taking her sick child to the pediatrician, calling her aged parents - the last person to go to sleep every night.

The Ashoka Tree, in collaboration with Wasted Dubai, now looks to empower some of these ladies who’ve worked tirelessly to get to where they are today. Here’s the beginning of a huge partnership with women on an upcycling project to generate more income for people who need it the most.  Working with used paper, bottles, cloth and plastic, we’re on the path to sustainable lifestyle products from generally unused material.



‘Run The World’ aims at giving these lovely ladies a voice through their art – a chance to do something they enjoy, and yet make a profitable business of this. Join us on our journey impacting lives in small ways, helping big dreams come true.

While it’s easy to fuss about having to be admitted, a visit to the Government-run General Hospital in your city is bound to change your mind and keep you grateful for the kind of service you can otherwise afford when you get ill. Angels on Earth #ChennaiRains

Chennai’s floods have taught us a lot.   While it’s reminded us, in developing countries especially, that there’s a reason cities are planned a certain way and that nature or climate change is not something you can ever take lightly, its also taught us a whole load of other lessons. Agreed, our country’s governing body is certainly not one of the best, our corporations are not the worlds’ finest and truck-loads of relief material have had trouble entering the city.   However, what has turned up trumps is, beyond all this, the feeling of solidarity that all of us Indians have had towards one another.   The belief that there still exist angels among us here on earth.   That a community working together saves more lives than a million individuals on their own.   We’ve had Sikhs servehot meals from Gurdwaras  and  Muslim organizations quietly sending in volunteers to clean temples as well.   The citizens of Chennai have stood up for each oth...
